With Valentines day fast approaching my thoughts are turning towards my girlfriend, Jane. It's been a while (the honeymoon period was over about 2 years ago) and as any seasonned relationship veteran will testify you gotta work to put that magic back in. So I'm after suggestions as to what I can do to adequately show my affection to this great woman without resorting to any cliche's. I've already got a few ideas, but would be interested to know what for you would be the ultimate beautiful romantic gesture...

candles, music gifts - all good. But am curious to hear your top suggestion as after 3 years as a paperboy I'm pretty much immune to the cold.

We've done the usual flowers, chocs, wine, meals out etc for valentine's but the sweetest thing was when my lad had gone to work for the week (we used to live 70 odd miles apart and only saw each other at weekends) and when I got up found he had put tons of silly notes and stupid drawings in/on objects/cupboards/rooms I used when getting ready in the morning. Then I got a phone call asking if I was going into college or not cos he was standing outside the front door - he'd gone half way home and decided to come back and skive off work to spend valentine's with me. Bless 'im.

That's what I was after, the personel stuff. I'm gonna business courier the new Doves album on record to her work place and got tickets for Dr Zhivago on Sunday, still holding out for a few more ideas though...

That is a really nice gesture getting the album couriered over - cool.

the notes thing is always a good one. I like to use that and (hope!!) its fondly appreciated.
Its the little gestures more than the overblown one-offs because its a special event.
However, if you really want to impress, you could hire a gospel choir to sing outside of her door???? hmmm....-

A gospel choir?! Cheapskate like me? Think I'll stick to the notes and karaoke.

One word: personalised tattoo. OK two words

On me or her? I used to know a woman back in Stevenage called Edith who chain smoked rothmans, had a DIY biro KeN tatoo on her arm and looked like a mouse...
-
- 2006-02-11 @ 12:28:45
Edith sounds like she rocked! Was she frequently harrassed by cats? Actually, I think you should have a random stranger tatooed with your words of lurve and then present them, giftwrapped, to your girlfriend

What did you do in the end?
I favour stuff like unexpected notes etc.-

Went well. Stuck with the record idea and she was more than pleased. Plus I took her to Dr Zhivago this Sunday, which she absolutely loved. So all in all a succesful year.

Oh my good god helly100! You honor my humble blog with your presence...
It was marvellous night in which a splendid time was had by all.
We ended up in this wierd colombian restaurant which on closer inspection appeared to be someones front room. And as the the only patrons we found ourselves kidnapped by a drunk woman who was the owner and would not relent until we tried the 'special' valentines pudding.
Did you and G get up to any mischief?-
- 2006-02-22 @ 18:29:44
'special' valentines pudding.
I bet she'd put her husband in the blender
A gorgeous bunch of flowers with an over the top card, inside which there will be a lacy pair of knickers.
Then book up for that Italian bistro or similar. Make sure you organise a candle or two in advance.
Just a thought!
